Abstract

Background. A study of the historiography of the 1917 revolution allows us to reveal the specifics of the study of the features of the causes and dynamics of developments in the country in the conditions of transformations of the early 20th century. Comprehension of the conclusions and observations of Russian historians creates a basis for identifying gaps in the historiography of the problem and allows us to formulate the prospects for further study of the phenomenon of revolution. The article summarizes the trends in Russian historiography of recent decades, taking into account the content of monographs and articles by leading specialists.
Materials and methods. The materials of the latest research of Russian historians are used, the work of which determines the vectors for further study of the events of the revolution. The author draws on the methods of classification and typologization, allowing to highlight the similarities and differences in the study of the problem. The historical-genetic method assumes a comprehension of the origin of phenomena in historiography.
Results. The author considers it necessary to pay attention to the comprehensiveness of studying the 1917 revolution both on the basis of the identified and published archival material, and taking into account the expansion of the discussion space during the last decades.
